Pros

  • Allows users to create videos very easily
  • Entire folders of photos can be instantly rendered into a slideshow

Cons

  • Some users complain that the application is buggy
  • Lacks the features of more professional movie making softwares

Moviemaker for Mac is an application that allows users to craft videos based on photos ported from their machine. The Moviemaker app is very simple to use since all the user needs to do is select an entire folder or specific photos and then process them.

Once the photos are added to the Moviemaker application, the app will automatically render them very quickly. When the movie is completely rendered, it's able to be shared between friends, viewed, and paired with audio for a movie-like experience.

It's possible to share your creations from within the application or through handy social media buttons. The video can be sent in an email, text message, or uploaded to sites like Vimeo.

All in all, Moviemaker for Mac is very simple to use and creates slideshows very quickly. Users don't need to have any specialized knowledge about moviemaking, film, or design in order to create a beautiful slideshow for friends and family.

More experienced users would likely benefit from a more robust application. The free version of Moviemaker can't do more complex operations, making it needlessly difficult to change the speed at which specific sets of images cycle.

Although there is a paid version available of Moviemaker, users can easily secure a legal trial version that never requires a renewal. This makes the entire application "de facto" free. Moviemaker mimics the built-in film editor provided in the Linux and Windows environment, which makes it comfortable for former Windows users.

However, some users complain about persistent and intractable bugs in the application. For many, the photo drag and drop function doesn't work, which makes it very difficult to add photos in specific subsections of the slideshow movie.
